PROGRAM HISTORY - Archive Converter/Scanner v2.0α
▌
▌▌▌ The following is a short development
▌▌ ▌▌
▌▌▌▌▌▌▌ ▌▌▌▌▌ history for the A.C.S. program. Thanks
▌▌ ▌▌ ▌▌ ▌▌
▌▌ for all the neatO suggestions that you,
▌▌ ▌▌ ▌▌▌▌▌
▌▌▌▌▌ ▌▌ the user, have contributed to make sure
▌▌▌▌
▌▌ that A.C.S. development continues..
Version 2.0α ▌▌▌▌▌
==============================================================================
A.C.S. Version 0.0000001 -> 1.0 ß (Preliminary Testing Versions - Quick BASIC)
(June 22/90 -> June 28/90)
- Program development began on June 22nd, 1990.
- 25 or so hours were spent developing the A.C.S. code to its Beta testing
version. Most of this time was spent creating a routine to delete/kill
multi-leveled subdirectories within the work directory structure. This
was NO easy task because of the MANY low-level limitations of QBASIC.
- The Beta testing version was released to the ACS Support Board - Helicon
for rigorous testing around the 28th of June.
A.C.S. Version 1.0 ß -> 1.0 α (Release Version - Debugging Time)
(June 28/90 -> July 1/90)
- 5 or so hours were spent debugging minor flaws in the pre-release version.
There should be no major bugs in the ACS code in version 1.0 α,
but if you should happen to find one - or have some ideas as // //
to what you'd like to see improved in the next version then >00O00-
feel free to drop me a line on the support board! \\ \\
A.C.S. Version 1.0 -> 1.1 ß (Testing Version - Quick BASIC)
(July 10/90 -> July 15/90)
- A BUG WAS FOUND! - (unbelievable but true) - A minor drive switching
problem was discovered by Ray Dyer - Thanks Ray..
- This bug was remedied in v1.1 - however this version was not released.
- It was decided that rather than make up for the weaknesses of QB 4.5
by using quick fixes, I would do a rewrite with a better language.
A.C.S. Version 1.1000001 -> 2.0 ß (Preliminary Testing Versions - TURBO PASCAL)
(August 01/91 -> August 07/91)
- After the fix-up of A.C.S. v1.1ß - I decided to re-code A.C.S. in PASCAL
- Also, shortly after the last release, the ACS support BBS (Helicon) went
Ka-Put! - I am now using: BlakStar Systems (416)656-4532 1:250/646
- Program development was re-started on August 1st, 1991.
- About 1 week was spent doing a complete re-write of A.C.S. in TP v6.0
- ACS Now Features: - a much improved user interface
- maintains the file date and time
- this was requested by several SysOps
- a more intelligent DOS interface
- added ARJ, DWC, HYP Archive Support
- also upgraded Lharc.Exe -> Lha.Exe
- archives within archives are now handled
- kills files listed in the ACS.CAN File
- so you can get rid of those pesky BBS ads
- scan.exe and every archiver need not exist
- a new DOS activity window has been developed
- now you can see what the heck is going on!
- <ESC> will halt ACS activity - with a prompt
- speed of execution enhanced by new Batch Mode
- also faster due to the new language itself
- ACS.EXE size reduced from 51K -> 17K - Much Better!
- the new ACS is just an all around better program!
- With the help of Trevor Short, Beta testing began on August 7th, 1991.
A.C.S. Version 2.0 ß -> 2.0 α (Release Version - Debugging Time)
(August 07/91 -> August 10/91)
- I am now doing the documentation for A.C.S. myself - Yuck..
- No serious flaws were uncovered during the Beta testing cycle
- There should be no major bugs in the ACS code in version 2.0 α,
but if you should happen to find one - or have some ideas as
to what you'd like to see improved in the next version then
